    That help me understand why I have two cables to my wall jack! Actually, like in your video, I have the two types of cables. Pretty old cables that break so easily, due to age and becoming dry or so? Can I fit a double jack in order to have one for a modem and other for my phone? Aim is to use my internal phone wiring with an IP phone system. Thanks for advising.

      Those red/black wires have alligator clips on the end which allow you to either clip-on to bare wire or.metal posts. It does the same function as the modular plug.

    It helped a little bit I'm working with an older style screw Mount and I figured okay that's what I'll do I'll serial Mount from the other one I put in a couple years ago and just extend a wire out. I think I have the commercial wires cuz I got them from a commercial place when they were taking them out of the building and I got a whole bunch of wires of pretty long lengths so I think I should be able to find one that will fit.

    Running in series is better than Running them all back to the de mark. Running them all back to the de mark is called star wiring, those pairs that arent being used, act as airials, so cause noise issues. Twist the wires together too, which makes the pair rejects noise.

    I have U-Verse but I don't have a fancy box on the house or the ONT box either. My internet download speed is only 2mb I pay for 50mb! Don't have that fancy power supply box either. I wonder if AT&T needs to revisit my installation and upgrade it to work properly.

    • @JJFlores197

      If you don't have an ONT, you don't have AT&T Fiber. The U-Verse brand was the successor to the old DSL technology from what I remember. Its still DSL, but they don't call it that anymore. As a matter of fact, AT&T dropped the U-Verse brand and just call it AT&T Internet.

    dude wtf is this lmao this is the worst ftth fiber connection ive ever seen my att fiber was just an aerial fiber cable from the pole behind my house that goes to a node on the run for my neighborhood THAT GOES STRAIGHT THROUGH A HOLE IN THE WALL OF THE BUILDING INTO A FIBER BOX which the fiber box was really small the size of my hand then a thinner fiber cable with a different color would go straight to the nokia modem which had a build in fiber to ethernet converter and I just plugged in my cat8e cable to the 2.5 gigabit port on the modem straight to my pc (idgaf about wifi I just want 0 ping latency on upstream and downstream to my pc no router needed for me)

    So here I am with fibre broadband and paying a fortune for it (around £350 per year) with a telephone line that doesn't work unless there is an electricity supply to the router box (VOIP telephone). Can anyone please explain why then I am being screwed by the supplier for the privelege of sending voice signals (telephone call) using the same line as the data line used for internet access? 🤨

    As an IT vet this is accurate information. I would speculate as a possibility that the router is the actual ISP demarcation point, in that the router does the ISP-centric configurations. This typically includes providing routing for either a single IP address or some sort of block of IP addresses, and likely included DNS services too, as that can reduce network costs to the ISP upstream from IX peering (DNS on their network means they don't pay extra for usage).

    • @DIYTelecom

      I didn't know that part about the DNS . Interesting🤔, thanks for sharing. 😊👍

    • @BloodyIron
      @BloodyIron 3 месяца назад

      @@DIYTelecom you're welcome! To clarify, the ISP's DNS servers would not be on the router itself. They would be elsewhere in a datacentre the ISP owns and operates.

    • @DIYTelecom

      In that video their voice system was cloud-hosted VoIP. So, the auto attendant would be software living in one of the data centers.
